The geared motor is to add a reducer or gear head to the output end of the motor to achieve the purpose of reducing the motor speed and increasing the torque. The reducer affects the overall output torque, noise and accuracy of the geared motor.
Geared motors are often used for position control. Typical cases are used as packaging equipment or grabbing materials and placing them at designated locations. There are also some high-precision manufacturing or liquid filling.The specific requirements of the application will determine the accuracy of the geared motor.For example, if the robot arm places a box on the pallet, a low-precision geared motor is sufficient, while high-precision position control may only allow an error of a few microns.
 
In fact, all types of geared motors can be used for position control, and the accuracy requirements are the basis for us to choose the geared mechanism.
 
 
If the key point for your application is position accuracy, then you should try to reduce the idle return of the reducer.There are many manufacturing methods for reducing idle return, such as pre-tightening or using high-precision gears.
 
The use of high-precision gears requires the manufacturer to control the various dimensions of the gears within a very small tolerance range, so that all gears can be closely matched, and the gap between the gear teeth is relatively small, thereby reducing the idle return.Of course, the price of high-precision gears will be much higher than that of ordinary gears.
 
Another way is to apply a pre-tightening force to the gear, usually by adding a spring to the mechanical structure to keep the gear teeth tightly engaged, so as to achieve low-altitude return.But this method usually can only achieve high-precision position control when running in a single direction.
